About Me

The Himalayan Now 2025 Exhibition- Organized by SAA Studio The Kala Salon, Chhaya Center, Kathmandu ,21 August, 2025

For over a decade, I have been practicing the traditional and expressive art of Mithila painting, a cultural treasure rooted in the heart and southern part of Nepal. As a Mithila artist, my work is deeply inspired by the mythological stories that shaped our culture and the rhythms of daily life that continue to define us. My art is both an homage to ancestral tradition and a living narrative that carries forward the voices of the past. I have been practicing parallely folk and fine art to explore who exactly am I.

Being a folk based artist, I practice art by taking inspiration from mythology which defines our profound identity as well as my artistic space through which I seek to quest and explore  my true existence. Each painting I create is a visual story, rich with symbolism and human connection. Figures in my artwork are not just decorative; they are narrators, conveying tales of gods, goddesses, birth, love, conflict, and peace—woven into the tapestry of everyday life. The cyclical nature of existence—from birth to death and rebirth—is a central theme that drives my creative process. I see this cycle not just in religious philosophy but also in the mundane, in festivals, rituals, and generational traditions.

My primary inspiration comes from the life cycle of human beings and the tradition of storytelling, especially the way stories are passed from one generation to the next. Mithila painting, in this context, becomes more than just art—it is a living history. I strive to preserve and reinterpret these stories so they continue to resonate with the younger generation, keeping the culture alive and evolving. Through the perspective of artistic history of now and then, my art sounds my own unique way which has been rooted in the past.

Through my work, I aim to strike a balance between tradition and relevance—maintaining the authenticity of Mithila style while allowing space for contemporary narratives. This way, my art becomes both a cultural mirror and a bridge—linking the ancient with the present, and inspiring the future.
